The Interoperability Strategic Vision whitepaper paper describes the desired future state of an interoperable grid, how that vision can be applied to distributed energy resources (DERs), and which tools and techniques can be used to advance that vision.

Hawaii Makes First Move for Grid Frequency-Watt Control, May 4, 2018

In February 2018, Hawaiian Electric became the first U.S. utility to require system-wide activation of frequency-watt control, following the recommendations of a July 2017 GMLC Technical Report

Interoperability Roadmap Methodology Published, March 28, 2018

This roadmap methodology is to be applied to technology integration ecosystems (e.g., electric vehicles, photovoltaic inverters, or automated buildings), using tools that measure the state of interoperability today, to identify the gaps and challenges that can be overcome to improve interoperability, and thereby, simplify the integration process.

Peer Review Report Published, January 25, 2018

In April 2017, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Grid Modernization Initiative (GMI) conducted its first external peer review of the projects awarded to the GMLC to execute a diverse portfolio of technologies to modernize the nation’s grid.
