Interoperability Technical Review Meeting

The U.S. Department of Energy Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium (GMLC) Interoperability Technical Review Meeting was held, in partnership with SGIP, on May 10-11, 2017 at American Electric Power (AEP) Ohio in Columbus, Ohio.

Download the notes from the meeting. Presentations from the event included:

The GMLC Interoperability project works with industry to establish a strategic vision of interoperability for grid modernization.  This second meeting with industry participants, shared progress and solicited feedback on three work products:  a strategic vision for interoperability, a tool to help measure interoperability (i.e., an interoperability maturity model), and a methodology for developing roadmaps to move from today’s situation toward the vision of an interactive grid characterized by easy to integrate devices and systems.  In addition to providing valuable feedback, attendees were asked to help shape future work directions toward achieving tangible results.

Topics explored included:

  • Defining criteria and measuring interoperability
  • Application of roadmap methodology and tools in specific grid-related ecosystems
  • Trial candidates for roadmap methodology
  • Approaches to encourage interoperability advancement including model language for procurement specifications, cost/benefits of interoperability, and demonstrations of advanced interoperability capabilities
