The Energy Power Board Utility (EPB), in partnership with the Department of Energy, is holding a press event to commission a new 100kW/500kWh Vanadium Redox Flow Battery. This technology offers a long duration discharge time which fits well with EPB’s goals to reduce peak demand and offers a long cycle life.  The battery is being installed on the site of EPB’s Solar Share community solar array in Chattanooga, Tennessee.

The focus for 2017 is squarely on the implementation of both the New York REV and the new Clean Energy Standard. With the recent value of D and the DSIP rulemakings, and roll out of CES procurement plans and rate-making orders expected over the next few months, the New York market is poised to jump forward.

The 2nd Sandia & EPRI Secure & Resilient Microgrid Design Summit will be co-located with APRISE 2017 and the Defense Energy Technology Challenge July 19-20 at the beautiful Hale Koa Hotel on Fort DeRussy Armed Forces Recreation Center, Waikiki, Honolulu, HI. This summit will bring together stakeholders and practitioners from the Department of Defense, Department of Energy, national laboratories, universities, civilian communities, utilities, regulators, and industry to discuss planning, designing, justifying, and implementing energy secure and resilient microgrid designs.

The theme for the 2017 IEEE Power & Energy Society Meeting is “Energize a More Secure, Resilient & Adaptable Grid,” providing a platform to offer new insights, innovative ideas, and answers to some of the most intriguing and important questions facing the power industry today.

PRC-027-1, “Coordination of Protection Systems for Performance during Faults,” is an upcoming NERC compliance standard that will require electric utilities to perform periodic reviews of their Bulk Electric System (BES) relay settings to ensure proper coordination between protection relays, including relays that are applied on tie lines with neighboring utilities.

In its second year, this conference focuses on future distributed energy systems, where they discuss latest issues, opportunities, trends and innovations happening at the grid edge.

The U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE's) Fuel Cell Technologies Office will present a live webinar titled "Grid Modernization Laboratory Consortium (GMLC) Research Efforts Related to Electrolyzers for Grid Services" on Tuesday, April 25, from 12 to 1 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT). Idaho National Lab (INL) will introduce DOE's scope and technical approach related to electrolyzers as a controllable load.
