Development of an Open-Source Platform for Advanced Distribution Management Systems

The data- and control-rich power distribution systems of the future rely on a variety of vendor systems. This project creates an open-source platform, GridAPPS-D, that will enable power distribution software applications to be developed for any compliant system instead of just one. By providing a common platform for application development, GridAPPS-D will:

  • reduce costs to develop, integrate, and maintain future applications,
  • improve distribution system reliability, and
  • simplify and accelerate system planning and operations research and development within the DOE labs and industry.

GridAPPS-D supports the full suite of distribution management applications, such as voltage and reactive power optimization; fault location, isolation and service restoration; economic dispatches; and optimization routines.
