Events

  • Western States Distribution Systems and Planning Training

The third in a series of regional trainings for public utility commissions on distribution systems and planning was held on May 1-3, 2018, for the Western Electricity Coordinating Council. Berkeley Lab is leading the training courses in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.

  • Distributed Control for Improving Power System Stability

Power systems consist of many components distributed across wide geographic areas. A sudden increase or decrease in load or generation in these systems results in swings in power transfer between regions, called inter-area oscillations. Damping these inter-area oscillations is crucial for maintaining a secure and reliable power grid. In this webinar, we present distributed control schemes that can be used to improve the small-signal stability of large power systems.

  • 2018 IEEE PES Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (ISGT) 2018

The Ninth Conference on Innovative Smart Grid Technologies (IGST) 2018 North America conference will take place in Washington, D.C. This year’s theme is “Grid Transformation”, focusing on the advancement and applications of both technologies and practices as applied to grid planning, operations, markets and polices to address the effective integration of variable and distributed energy resources, as well as the growing importance of participation of customers and third parties in the generation and management of electricity.

  • DistribuTECH 2018

DistribuTECH is an annual electric power transmission and distribution conference that addresses technologies used to move electricity from the power plant through the transmission and distribution systems to the meter and inside the home. This year’s track topics include advanced metering, data analytics, grid security, distribution automation, energy storage, and more.

  • Midwest Distribution Systems & Planning Training

The second in a series of regional trainings for public utility commissions on distribution systems and planning was held on January 16-17, 2018, for the Midwest Public Utility Commissions. Berkeley Lab is leading the training courses in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.

  • 10th Biennial Electrical Energy Storage Applications and Technologies (EESAT)

The 2017 EESAT Conference theme is Energy Storage: Evolution and Revolution and will provide a platform to revisit research and development, technologies, and projects that have helped shape the sience and industry of energy storage. The conference will also cover new directions for energy storage and how it can address challenges of the smarter, more modern electricity grid.

  • NREL Cybersecurity & Resilience Annual Workshop

Securing the grid from cyberattacks is more complex than ever, and while there is no shortage of vendors offering solutions, objective voices are hard to come by. NREL invites you to share your voice and help us explore and evaluate the greatest cybersecurity challenges across a variety of disciplines and sectors. This year, we look forward to a 1.5-day workshop with expert panelists and breakout sessions that explore the residual risk of cyber threats and resilience.

  • NECPUC Distribution Systems & Planning Training

The first in a series of regional trainings for public utility commissions on distribution systems and planning was held on Sept. 27-29, 2017, for the New England Conference of Public Utility Commissioners. Berkeley Lab is leading the training courses in partnership with the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners.
